DIY Website or Professional Development? An Honest Comparison
Back to Blog
We build websites for a living and we'll still tell you that a DIY site builder is the right answer for some businesses. Pretending otherwise wouldn't be honest.
When DIY makes sense
- You need a simple online presence: who you are, what you do, how to contact you
- Your budget is very tight and your needs are modest
- You enjoy it and have the time to do it properly
- You don't need custom functionality or integrations
Where DIY starts costing more than it saves
- Your time. Hours spent fighting a builder are hours not spent on the business.
- Performance and structure. Builders can produce slow, poorly structured sites that are hard to fix underneath.
- Limits. Custom functionality, integrations and unusual workflows hit walls quickly.
- Search. Technical SEO, structured data and site architecture often need more control than the builder allows.
- Migration. Moving away later can be painful. The content and URLs are yours; the design often isn't portable.
A sensible middle option
Start with a well-configured builder, and bring in help for the parts that matter: setup, tracking, search structure, or a specific feature. If the site later outgrows the platform, that's a redevelopment conversation, and we'll tell you if it isn't needed yet.
