Age & platform

Was the site built or substantially redesigned in the last 3–4 years?

Check the invoice, or the copyright year and design style.

Is the platform (WordPress, Shopify, etc.) and its plugins kept up to date?

Log in to the admin area and look for pending updates.

Mobile experience

On your own phone, is the site easy to read and use without zooming?

Try the menu, the main enquiry action and a form.

Is your phone number or enquiry button one tap away on mobile?

Speed

Do main pages load in a couple of seconds on mobile data?

Test on your phone with Wi-Fi off.

Does the page stay still while loading (no jumping layouts or late pop-ups)?

SEO visibility

Does searching your business name show your website first?
Do you appear for the main service you offer plus your area?

Search in a private window, e.g. 'plumber Strathpine'.

Is Google Search Console set up and checked?

Security

Does the site load over HTTPS with no browser warnings?
Do you know where backups are kept, and has one ever been restored as a test?

Conversion experience

Could a stranger tell what you do and for whom within five seconds of landing?
Do you know how many enquiries the site produced last month and where they came from?
Have you tested your enquiry form end to end recently and confirmed the message arrives?

Content quality

Is the content accurate and current (services, hours, team, prices approach)?
Does the site answer the questions customers actually ask you?

Technical issues

Are you free of broken pages, broken images and error messages?
Can you or your team update the site safely without calling a developer for every change?

Why not an automatic scan?

A genuine audit needs real measurement: lab tests, real-user data and someone who can read the results. A button that reports a score without doing that would be invented. When you want the real thing, that's the first stage of our process, for sites we didn't build as well as ones we did.
