AI Search Visibility

What to do now that people ask AI for recommendations.

“My website is live but nobody can find it.”

More people now ask an assistant rather than scroll a results page: 'who's a good electrician near Strathpine?', 'which CMS suits a small clinic?', 'compare these two suppliers'. The answer might name businesses, compile sources or summarise a comparison. You can't control what a model writes. You can control whether the facts it could draw on are accurate, findable and worth citing.

Google's published guidance for its AI features says the fundamentals still apply: helpful, original content; crawlable, fast pages; structured data that matches what's on the page; and accurate business information. It also says no special markup is required. We work on those fundamentals and on the things AI systems uniquely reward: clarity, factual specificity and first-party information that can't be found elsewhere.

Signs this is what you need

  • AI assistants describe your business wrongly, or don't mention it
  • You want to know whether customers are finding you through AI tools
  • Your business information is inconsistent across the web
  • You have expertise and first-party information but it isn't published clearly

When you probably don't need it

  • Basic SEO and site health are broken: those foundations come first
  • Anyone offering guaranteed placement in AI answers: nobody can deliver that

Telling you this is part of the job.

What helps, what doesn't

Honest guidance without rank promises

  • Clear, factual descriptions of who you are, what you do, where you operate and who you serve
  • First-party information: real prices or pricing approach, processes, service details, policies
  • Question-led content that answers what customers actually ask
  • Consistent entity information across your site, profiles and directories
  • Crawlable, fast pages with structured data matching visible content
  • Third-party mentions and reviews from real customers and publications
  • Not helpful: keyword-stuffed 'AI-optimised' pages, invented expertise, or hidden text written for machines

Checking where you stand

How to find out what AI says about your business

Ask the assistants customers use the questions customers ask, in a fresh session, and record the answers: are you mentioned, is it accurate, which sources are cited? Repeat monthly. Answers vary between runs and users, so treat it as a trend rather than a score.

AI search readiness checklist

Ten checks for how clearly your business can be understood by people and by AI systems. No checklist can promise an AI mention. This shows how solid your foundations are.

Clarity of facts

Does your site state plainly who you are, what you do, where you operate and who you serve?
Is that information identical across your site, social profiles and directory listings?
Is a real person or team named, with contact details that are easy to find?

First-party content

Do you have pages that answer the questions customers really ask you?
Do your service pages contain specifics (process, scope, what's included, what isn't) rather than generic claims?
Do you explain how pricing works, even if you don't publish figures?

Technical foundations

Can search engines crawl your pages (no accidental blocking, content not hidden behind scripts)?
Do you use structured data (Organization, Service, FAQ where visible) that matches page content?
Are your pages fast and stable on mobile?

Checking reality

Have you asked AI assistants the questions your customers ask, and recorded what they said about you?

Common Questions

Before you get in touch

Can you get my business recommended by ChatGPT or Google's AI?

No one can guarantee that. We can make sure your facts are accurate and easy to find, and that your site has the content worth citing. Whether a system uses it is outside anyone's control.

Do I need an llms.txt file?

Google has said it isn't needed for its AI features. We publish one on our own site as a plain-language summary for any system that reads it, but we don't treat it as a ranking lever.

Is this different from SEO?

It builds on it. The foundations overlap heavily. The extra work is clarity, first-party facts and checking how AI systems actually describe you.

Tell us what isn't working.

You don't need to know exactly what you need. We'll work out what actually needs to be built, fixed, improved or changed, and tell you if the answer is 'nothing'.
