Can AI Run Your Business? Probably Not. Can It Remove Hours of Repetitive Work? Potentially.
Back to Blog
AI is not a strategy by itself. It's a capability that should solve a real business problem. That framing cuts through both the hype ('AI will run everything') and the dismissal ('it's a fad').
Where it tends to help
- Drafting first versions of replies, summaries and content that a person then edits
- Sorting and extracting information from documents and forms
- Searching your own knowledge: policies, procedures, past work
- Prioritising enquiries and flagging urgent ones
- Turning data into readable reports
- Following fixed rules across systems (automation)
Where it doesn't
- Anything needing judgement, accountability or a relationship
- Tasks with no clear definition of 'correct'
- Situations where a confident wrong answer is costly and nobody checks
- Replacing understanding of your own business
A useful test
Is the task repetitive, well-defined and checkable? If yes, AI may help. If it's vague, high-stakes and unchecked, be careful. Start small, keep people in charge, and measure whether it actually saved time. See AI for business, or read how to do it securely.
