Your Website Looks Good. Why Isn't It Converting?

Back to Blog

A site can be beautiful and still fail commercially. Visual design makes a good first impression. Conversion depends on whether a visitor understands the offer, believes it, and finds it easy to act.

Common reasons a good-looking site doesn't convert

  • The promise is vague. Clever headlines and mood photography, but no plain statement of what you do and for whom.
  • The proof is missing. No real examples, no process, no specifics. Nothing that lowers the risk of contacting you.
  • The next step is unclear. Too many options, or an enquiry button lost in the design.
  • Forms create friction. Too many fields, unclear errors, no confirmation.
  • Mobile is an afterthought. Tiny tap targets, slow loading, hidden phone number.
  • Speed is poor. Heavy imagery and scripts make pages load slowly on mobile data.
  • Nothing is measured. You can't fix what you can't see.

What to do

Start with evidence: analytics, session behaviour and the enquiries you do receive. Fix what's plainly broken, test what's uncertain, and be honest when traffic is too low for a test to mean anything. Conversion optimisation explains how we approach it, and website performance covers the speed side.
